This home is over 100+ years old and dates back to the Chicago prohibition days when Al Capone and his crew came to this very point to conduct their business on the Chain O' Lakes and get out of Chicago. It is rumor that the old Chicago gangsters themselves used this home to lodge and get out of the city and enjoy the lakes. There is a ton of history at this historic home several houses down from the historic Mineola Hotel, an old hotel now preserved and protected by the Illinois Historical Society. The whole house is remodeled, but there are still some original aspects of the house that remind you how old this historic home is, and we designed a history room for you to enjoy during your stay and look out over the lake. Step into a truly unique piece of Fox Lake history with our newly designed Prohibition Room, located on the lower level of the home with sweeping, cinematic views over Mineola Bay. Inspired by the legendary Prohibition-era past of the Chain O’ Lakes, this space pays tribute to the 1920s–1930s lakefront lifestyle, when the area was known for its hidden retreats, waterfront hotels, and colorful local folklore tied to Chicago’s early resort and bootlegging era. Just a short distance from the historic Mineola Bay Hotel—long associated with stories and local lore from that time—this room is thoughtfully designed to immerse guests in that nostalgic atmosphere. Featuring rich, vintage-inspired décor, whiskey barrel accent pieces, and classic Prohibition-era styling, it creates a one-of-a-kind lounge experience that blends history, imagination, and lakefront luxury.
